Larry’s Biggest Laugh Ever

Hear the tale of the biggest, longest and deepest laugh Larry’s ever had in his life. And it was when he was a kid, so he’s had a long time to top it.

Show Summary

Larry’s good at drinking and good at packing, but not at packing while drunk.

Then we hear about Larry’s weekend in Tampa and the good times he had hanging out with his friend, having giant, comedy-sized drinks. Larry talks about other indulgences, both minor and major and muses on why they should not be regretted. Our host once again confirms that he is, in fact, a “big boy” and nobody disagrees.

Larry also espouses the benefits of the less complicated things in life and almost sort of gets to reading some listener mail.

Quote of the week:

“Why do I recognize my limit 20 minutes after I passed it?”

Pictured above: Larry making himself at home — at Jeff’s desk. Complete with bottle of bourbon and comedy underpants.

Hey Larry I know exactly what you mean by great laughs. Me and my friend have a gauge. The second best is “The Snort” after the snort there always seems to be a hesitation and everyone looks at the person like “did you just snort?” and then the laugh continues. But the ultimate laugh is “The Nose Booger Bubble” which I have only seen once, where the person laughs soo hard that they blow a nose booger bubble and it goes back in like a balloon. You have to tell me if you have ever achieved this one!!!

Larry I think you are on to something: the Barfet (A bar buffet)! Charge whatever Sizzler or one of those Luao Gardens charges and it is all you can drink that you pour yourself! At wholesale prices booze isn’t really all that expensive; think of the profit margins!

Love your show, thanks for the laughs, and I am looking forward to getting my LMDS card (about 4 weeks now).

Larry, thanks so much for the show. I like to think of you as the funny uncle that I never had (they range from completely unfunny to mildly amusing).

One of my favorite laughs came from a middle school science class. My elderly teacher was talking about geology and how you can use a device to pound the ground and measure seismic waves and whatnot. He struggled to recall the name of the machine and finally blurted out, “I know, it’s called a vibrator!”. I had to hunch down at my desk and hide behind the guy in front of me. I’m sure he could still see my shoulders shaking and hear my desperately stifled laughter. Anyway, thanks for reminding me of that story and keep up the great work. Any plans to bring the show to Indianapolis in the near future?

Larry, that was a classic! Thank you so much. I was laughing out of control right along with you and your buddy. One of my best friends had a similar situation sitting in church on Christmas eve. She and her husband are NOT church-goers. They went with his parents to make his mother happy. Her sister was with them also. They’d had a few cocktails. Just before the service, a soprano started wailing a solo from the balcony above them. My girlfriend and her sister looked at each other and lost it. They tried to control it but they were shaking the whole pew. The mother-in-law was not impressed.

    PS Hi Jesse!

First off, I can’t believe you’re not sponsored by Diageo (yet). I’ve never tried Johnnie Walker Black before, and you inspired me to. First off, one notices it’s “by appointment to her Majesty the Queen” so it must be good (not being sarcastic; everything “by appointment to Her Majesty” is decent).

So I’m doing a taste test. First off is Jim Beam Rye. It smells like paint thinner and tastes slightly better than Yukon Jack. Next, Johnnie Walker Black. First off, it’s smooth, it’s tasty, but still has an industrial “chemically” smell. Finally to Glenlivet. First off, you notice it does not smell chemical at all. There’s nothing offensive about it. First off, you can tell it’s been in a barrel for twelve years and you can definitely taste the oak. Is my thirst off?

    No.

Since my comment is awaiting moderation (and aren’t we all?), could you change the last line to “Is my thirst off (yet)?”

    Thanks.

Hey Mr. Miller! Here’s a heartbreaking story: after getting laid off a job, I stopped off at a local bar I’d never been to before that was down the street from my house and asked for a Bud and a shot of jack. The gal behind the bar said, “We don’t serve liquor. But a shot of jack sure sounds good.”

    Oh boy.

“It sure does,” I said, “I just got laid off. But I’ll just have the bud, thanks.”

I had my beer and a few more and some free popcorn and then I went home.

And wouldn’t you know it? After about a month later I got an even better job and drove by the same bar and they had a chalkboard out front saying “We now have booze!”

Larry, I was at that show in Tampa for my 38th birthday, and you were, as always, fantastic. I was that Aussie guy who had a quick chat with you after the Friday night show. Let me tell you, I had a few drinks that night, and don’t regret it for a second (though from memory I was not in the best of health the following day).

Just wanted to write to say thank you, and to ask if you had any plans to bring back that bit about your father and the BBQ?

    cheers

Thank you so much for your wonderful, amusing, and thought-provoking podcast.

As a classical musician who has had occasion(usually against my better judgement) to be involved in performances of modern music, I especially enjoyed your Biggest Laugh Ever story. Being the movie expert that you are, I’m sure you’ve seen the Peter Sellers movie ” The World of Henry Orient,” but perhaps other members of the Larry Miller Drinking Society would enjoy the best film send-up of modern music that I’ve ever seen. Gotta love Peter Sellers.

    Best Wishes

    Daisy
